Nervous about getting a Thai massage – or any massage for that matter?

We know that for some of you, this is an experience you would like to try but are anxious about what to expect. So we thought that you would like to be run through everything from before to after your massage and what specifically to expect at Wellbeing Thai Massage.

“Some people are worried about the amount of pressure that is applied,” says Orn. “Whilst there are many who like a firm, deep tissue treatment, remember that massage can also be very gentle. We provide massage to babies! So if you want it soft and relaxing, just say.” She adds, “One of our oldest customers is 93 years old. You’re never too old to get massage treatment or try it for the first time.”

Booking your massage

Your massage experience starts when you choose the style of massage when you book but if you’re not sure what style to choose, speak to your therapist before your session starts about your concerns as the treatment can be tailored to suit. At Wellbeing Thai Massage, we provide an authentic service.

“When people come who are from, or have travelled to, Thailand they are often surprised,” says Anne. “They comment about how it’s exactly what you would get in Thailand and I tell them that we offer the same service regardless of who it is. When you come to see us, it is the real deal.”

At the spa

When you arrive, head upstairs.* The massage spa is on the upper floor at 1-171 Waltham Road. If we are in session just take a seat in the waiting area and take the time to unwind. If it is your first visit you will be asked to complete a questionnaire to give us an understanding of your health and any areas of concern. When you give us your completed form is a good time to talk with therapist about concerns or areas of focus.

Your therapist will show you to the massage room and then leave you to get ready. For most treatments you will need to undress (including bra) but leave your underwear on. Once you are undressed, lie face down on the massage bed with the towel as a draping over you.

During the session

When your therapist returns, they will usually start with a warm towel wipe of your feet before starting the massage. During the massage, they will uncover the area that they are working on.

Your comfort is a priority throughout so please let your therapist know if:

  • any touch or movement causes you pain
  • you need more or less pressure
  • you are feeling cold or hot
  • you need a drink of water or to blow your nose
  • you need a comfort break
  • remember a health issue or injury that you hadn’t told us about

This time is all about you. If you would like to just enjoy the massage in silence or to have a conversation then that is great. Some people fall asleep in deep relaxation, that is also great. Your therapist will talk you through what they are doing and what they need you to do to assist in terms of positioning and turning.

After the session

Once your session is over, the therapist will let you know that it is time. You will be left to get dressed. Leave the therapy room when you are ready and water will be in the waiting area for you. It is important to hydrate after a massage to help flush the toxins released from your body and to wake you up a little before you head away.

This is when you will pay. We take eftpos and credit card payments.

*If stairs are an issue, please contact us to discuss as we will need to book the downstairs room if you cannot manage them.
